Training

 

The training course aims to:

  1. Develop competency of practitioners in using In My Shoes to ultimately become a registered In My Shoes Interviewer.

  2. Provide training on navigating round the In My Shoes computer program competently.

  3. Provide micro-skills training in specific interviewing skills when using In My Shoes to promote communication and to maximise the opportunity to address sensitive areas and share information effectively.

  4. Help practitioners to plan and prepare specific applications of In My Shoes in different practice contexts and service user groups.

  5. Set action learning tasks enabling the practitioner to practice using the program in their work place.

  6. Provide an opportunity for review and further consolidation and development of participants’ knowledge and skills in using the In My Shoes program with children, young people and vulnerable adults.

By the end of the training participants should:

  1. Be able to use the In My Shoes computer program including:
    * The structure, content and rationale of the program
    * How to navigate their way round the In My Shoes modules
    * How to set preferences for operating the program
    * Some of the specific interviewing skills to use with In My Shoes to facilitate communication with a child or young person
    * How to save and print an In My Shoes session record.

  2. Have made good progress in developing the interviewing skills needed to use In My Shoes effectively with children, young people and/or vulnerable adults

  3. Be able to understand and interpret the results file from an In My Shoes interview

  4. Have planned their future use and the specific applications for In My Shoes in their work

  5. Have planned how to achieve registration as an In My Shoes Interviewer

  6. Have a strategy for consolidating and further developing their use of In My Shoes in an ongoing and supported way

  7. Have developed transferable skills in using the In My Shoes program as part of an evidence-based and reflective assessment and review of a child’s needs.

The training course for learning how to use In My Shoes is comprised of two days, separated by 4-6 weeks to allow course participants to try out In My Shoes in their practice between sessions.

Between the two days, course participants are expected to practice interviewing with In My Shoes in the workplace and undertake interviews with two children, one of which needs to be in the workplace. Following day two, they must undertake a further two workplace interviews with children. Course participants who successfully fulfil the requirements can become a Registered In My Shoes Interviewer.

Training is available for groups in agencies, or for individuals.

An In My Shoes training course for individuals is currently being proposed for Autumn 2020.
